San Francisco‑based startup Cast Insights announced the launch of its real‑time speech intelligence platform after securing $4.5 million in a pre‑seed round led by Abstract Ventures.
Funding and early backing
The round also attracted participation from HF0, Village Global, Max Ventures, Embassy Ventures and Stratus Ventures.
Cast Insights emerged from the HF0 Residency program, which supports repeat founders. It plans to use the new capital to expand data processing capacity from the current 2.3 million hours of speech to 20 million hours, while monitoring half a million hours of live content each day.

How the platform works
According to the filing, the service ingests spoken audio from TV channels, radio stations, podcasts and other broadcast sources. It then transcribes the content and applies artificial‑intelligence algorithms to identify speakers, trace narrative development and gauge sentiment in real time. The company describes this as an “ephemeral speech data” layer that captures statements that would otherwise disappear once a broadcast ends.
Co‑founder and chief executive Otávio Costa Miranda says speech is the world’s largest untapped data source. “Most of what gets said in the world every day across radio stations, legislatures, podcasts and local broadcasts is ephemeral by nature,” he told reporters. “It surfaces publicly, it influences people and then it vanishes.”
Cast Insights demonstrated the system with a case study on public discourse surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The platform logged near‑zero mentions before the recent U.S.–Iran conflict, then saw daily references rise to roughly 400 and peak at 2,946 when a cease‑fire collapsed. Sentiment slipped from 7.7 % positive to 3.3 % as the cease‑fire broke, and the tool captured a rapid shift when U.S. officials briefly proposed a 20 % transit toll before reversing the policy within 24 hours.
While the technology is still being tested with early adopters, it reports processing speech in 20 countries and ten languages. It aims to become the largest repository of such data, covering major U.S. television broadcasts, radio stations and podcasts.

Industry reaction
Cast Insights’ early traction suggests demand for more immediate insight into public discourse, especially in sectors where rapid sentiment changes can affect market risk, such as insurance for shipping routes.
With the fresh funding, the startup intends to scale its infrastructure and add more languages to its coverage. The roadmap includes expanding its client base beyond early adopters to larger institutional users that require up‑to‑the‑minute analysis of broadcast content.
It signals a shift toward instant analytics.
