Meta unveiled the Muse Charm at Meta Connect 2026 as a standalone AI assistant keychain.

Meta’s Muse Charm is a compact AI keychain designed to provide immediate access to its agentic assistant, Muse, eliminating the need to unlock a user’s phone. Unveiled during Meta Connect 2026, the device operates through cloud-based processing and replicates the full functionality of the Muse app—including automated task execution, visual context via an embedded camera, and seamless integration with third-party services such as WhatsApp.

The charm’s defining advantage lies in its efficiency: users activate Muse by pressing an integrated fingerprint sensor, removing the step of launching an application. This approach parallels the convenience of Meta’s smart glasses, which start at $249. However, Meta has yet to disclose an official launch date or confirm the final price, though the company has said it should be available in time for the holidays, so you should be able to buy one by late December.

Beyond basic functionality, the charm can handle practical tasks such as booking reservations or scanning barcodes. Its primary benefit, though, remains accessibility; it does not expand Muse’s core capabilities but instead accelerates interaction. Yet, the device’s continuous connectivity and onboard camera may spark privacy concerns, particularly given Meta’s past controversies over data collection and legal disputes involving teen addiction allegations.

To mitigate these risks, Meta has implemented safeguards by running Muse operations within a virtual machine, restricting access to sensitive information like financial details. Users also control app permissions, allowing them to disable integrations when necessary. Despite these measures, the charm’s reliance on persistent connectivity, combined with Meta’s history of privacy-related issues, will likely fuel ongoing skepticism about its security.

Currently, the Muse Charm exists only as a functional prototype, with production specifications, including materials and pricing, still under evaluation. The device’s success depends on whether Meta can reconcile user trust with its core selling point: a more responsive and intuitive way to engage with AI.
