The collaboration between SAP and OpenText, which began in 1992, remains one of the most enduring alliances in the enterprise software sector. As organizations increasingly look to integrate artificial intelligence into their workflows, the two companies are focusing on how their combined ability to manage structured and unstructured data can support modern digital transformation.
Estelle de Beer, Chief Partner Officer for MEA South at SAP, states that the partnership was formed to address a gap in enterprise resource planning. While SAP systems managed transactional data, significant business information—such as contracts, emails, and drawings—often remained outside the reach of these governed environments. By linking these disparate sources, the companies aim to provide a contextual view of business processes.
This integration is becoming a prerequisite for the effective use of machine learning tools. Because artificial intelligence is dependent on the quality and accessibility of the information it processes, the ability to draw from a unified pool of both transactional and content-based records is viewed as a way to improve outcomes.

The reliance on legacy data structures often complicates digital migration projects for large organizations. When companies transition to newer software versions, the process of moving archives and unstructured content presents technical hurdles. By providing standardized migration and archiving support, the partners seek to simplify these transitions while maintaining data integrity.
The financial impact of this integration is detailed in a report by IDC. The research indicates a 351% three-year return on investment for users, with a payback period occurring within 13 months. Additional findings include a 37% increase in efficiency for accounts payable teams, alongside faster document migration times.
Naeem Muhammad, ISV Partner Business Manager for the MEA Region at SAP, explains that the software is treated as an extension of the core product line. OpenText items appear on the official SAP price list, and the firm provides end-to-end customer support, contracts, and service level agreements. This structure is designed to simplify the procurement process by allowing clients to manage their requirements through a single point of contact.

The relationship has also been recognized through the Pinnacle award, which OpenText has received 21 times. These entities, along with global consulting firms, frequently coordinate in what is referred to as the power of three, a strategy intended to align software delivery with strategic service implementation.
As AI adoption increases, streamlining access to both structured and unstructured data is important for enterprises, Muhammad says: “AI is only as good as the data it has access to, so with SAP and OpenText, it is all combined. Our SAP Autonomous Enterprise can access the entire pool of data.”
